Deadly Explosion at Damascus Café Kills 6, Injures 22 in Central District
An explosion at a busy cafe on Al-Nasr Street in central Damascus, Syria, has resulted in at least six deaths and 22 injuries Thursday afternoon. An investigating official confirmed that someone set an improvised explosive device under a table at the cafe, which is very well known among lawyers and other individuals because of its closeness to the Palace of Justice courthouse, then escaped from the scene. Although there have been no claims of responsibility, the governor of Damascus pinned it on "bad actors" seeking to destabilize the country, and according to analysts, it is because of the approximately 10,000 members of the previous Assad regime still at large who are annoyed by all the war crime trials taking place in the nearby courthouse. This is one of many security breaches recently experienced by the country, such as from ISIS, but despite this, officials believe the transitional government is slowly building up the security system of the country since al-Assad's fall in December 2024.
